About Martin
Multiple world and European champion in Canoe Sprint, he celebrated his lifetime success after triumphing at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Martin Fuksa achieved the most wanted olympic medal on his third attempt. He had the highest ambitions in Rio and Tokyo, but he finished fifth each time. This year, he gave his rivals no chance on the canal in Vaires-sur-Marne, moved into the lead shortly after the start in the final and gradually built up a big lead, which he easily maintained to the finish.
The Nymburk native, who is coached by father Petr and grandfather Josef - former outstanding canoeists - is considered to be the successor of two-time Olympic champion Martin Doktor. He won most of his titles on the non-Olympic 500m course, but has medals from the kilometre as well. He brought back a complete collection of them from the European Games, and also races the double canoe with his younger brother Peter.
