This is the first test of the future stars in this year's Race of Peace. While last year the riders completed only 3.1-kilometre time trial with minimal elevation gain, this year they will sweat a lot more right from the start. From Krnov to Opava, they will ride 124 kilometres and 1,739 vertical metres. Although they will probably decide in the final spurt, the start will already show the distribution of forces.
Start:
Krnov is an Upper Silesian town in the foothills of the Low Jeseník Mountains. It lies at the confluence of the Opava and Opavice rivers, close to the border with Poland. There are a number of sights and historical buildings in the town, such as the Krnov Synagogue, the Concert Hall of the Holy Spirit, St. Martin's Church, St. Benedict's Church, the Minorite Monastery, the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows in Cvilín and others.
Finish:
It lies in the Opava Hills on the Opava River and is the third largest town in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Opava is nicknamed "the white pearl of Silesia" thanks to its two towers - the 60 m high white tower Hláska near the Neo-Renaissance building of the Opava Town Hall and one of the towers of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Gothic church in the centre of the historic centre of the town on the square, still called the Fish Market, was built at the end of the 14th century by the Order of German Knights and is considered the largest Silesian brick Gothic building in the Czech Republic. The 102 m high south tower with a white baroque lantern is the tallest tower in Silesia.
